Highlights from the 2011 Breakfast of Champions

Highlights from Washington Conservation Voters' 19th Annual Breakfast of Champions on October 7th, 2011.

Washington Conservation Voters' Annual Breakfast of Champions is the biggest political environmental event in the state.  In 2011, we had over 700 candidates, elected officials, and environmental supporters in attendance and raised over $165,000.

WCV Executive Director, Brendon Cechovic gave a speech that proved that WCV is ready to lead Washington’s environmental community to victory in the 2011 and 2012 Elections.

Our 2011 Legislator of the Year, Representative Dave Upthegrove highlighted one of the great achievements of the last legislative session: the successful passage of the TransAlta coal plant bill. He closed by saying, “We became the first state in the US to say we are done with coal.”

Washington Conservation Voters and our national partner organization, the League of Conservation Voters, announced our early and strong endorsement of Jay Inslee for governor.  Both organizations made clear that electing Jay Inslee is a top priority for the 2012 Elections.

WCV Board Member, Nancy Ritzenthaler, made a compelling case about why supporting Washington Conservation Voters' work maximizes long-term impact for environmental protection.

Jim Whittaker, the first American to climb Mt. Everest, finished the program with an important life lesson: If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space.
