Outreach and Campaign Internship
This internship is an excellent opportunity to develop skills and experience with a political organization. Interns will work in our office in the following areas: local candidate and issue-base campaigns, political strategy, organizational development, grassroots capacity building, volunteer coordinating and/or outreach to the public.
Washington’s leading political environmental organization seeks one or two students to join our outreach campaign team as interns. As the political voice for the environment, Washington Conservation Voters works to advocate for strong environmental policies and also endorses and elects environmental candidates to office.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to develop skills and experience with a political organization. Interns will work in our office in the following areas: local candidate and issue-base campaigns, political strategy, organizational development, grassroots capacity building, communications, volunteer coordinating and/or outreach to the public.
The intern’s responsibility will vary depending on the campaign needs and the specific skills of the intern, but the following is a general description of the work. There is room for the intern to develop focus areas depending on his/her interests.
Potential Areas of Work:
- Research conservation and political credentials of candidates running for office.
- Help schedule candidate endorsement interviews.
- Help maintain various portions of the website by tracking appropriate news stories and posting them.
- Track environmental and political blogs and look for opportunities to further Washington Conservation Voter's campaign plan through these venues.

Update the website with endorsement information and chapter/outreach events.

Organize volunteers for campaign activities, such as doorbelling and phone banking.

Volunteer recruitment, including outreach to local college campus and community organizations.
- Maintain the online presence for Washington Conservation Voters on Facebook and manage ongoing communications with Facebook members around key events, volunteer opportunities etc.

Assist in event planning for candidate campaigns and Washington Conservation Voters events.

Promote Washington Conservation Voters at local festivals and fairs by staffing tables.

Research opportunities to increase membership and volunteer base.

Work to support our 8 chapters around the state.

Data entry and administrative duties.

Strong computer skills, including Internet, Word, and Excel

Some experience or understanding of community organizing, campaigns, and/or event planning
We are flexible and can work around your school or work schedule. We ask that interns commit 10-20 hours a week for a minimum of 10 weeks. Some of the work may be done off site, but the intern will be required to work from the downtown Seattle office at least twice a week. College credit can be arranged.
