2009 Election Results
The results of the 2009 Washington State General Election for the candidates and ballot measures endorsed by Washington Conservation Voters.
This 2009 Election was historic in many ways and certainly was a green sweep here in Washington.
Voters elected environmental candidates and demonstrated once again that in Washington, being right on the environment matters in elections. In a huge victory, Washingtonians defeated Eyman's I-1033 which would have been devastating for environmental protections. We also celebrated the election of environmental champion Dow Constantine in the race for King County Executive.
In other local races across the state, voters chose candidates with strong environmental backgrounds. Amber Waldref, a candidate with roots in the environmental community, was elected to the Spokane City. Council. Karen Valenzuela, who has a strong record on the environment, will be a new Thurston County Commissioner. Voters also re-elected long time environmental leader Dave Somers in Snohomish County. In addition, voters elected all three of our endorsed candidates in the Port of Seattle races.
