Dow Constantine has built a strong record as an environmental champion throughout his career as a State Representative and Senator and as a member of the King County Council. He earned the endorsement of Washington Conservation Voters in his three runs for King County Council and we are excited to endorse his campaign for King County Executive. As a State Representative, Constantine introduced the state’s first climate change legislation in Washington, and later guided a climate change bill through the Senate in 2001. Also during his time in the state legislature, Constantine began the fight to save Maury Island from a multinational mining company attempting to turn the island into a gravel mine. This fight lasted over a decade, with a major victory in August of 2009. As Chair of the King County Council’s Growth Management and Unincorporated Areas Committee he led efforts to rewrite the county’s development laws to protect sensitive areas such as lakes, streams, aquifers, and wetlands using the best available science, collectively known as the Critical Areas Ordinances. Dow Constantine has a long history of leadership on environment issues and has demonstrated a strong vision for the future of King County.
