Mayor Mary Verner has been working in environmental protection and sustainability for nearly her entire career.  In her first year in office as Mayor, she formed a Sustainability Task Force to address climate change and has implemented recommendations in transportation, land use, and energy savings measures throughout city facilities and operations.  She has been working on a “Complete Street Plan” for the City, has led on innovative local projects to address toxic runoff water pollution, and is a strong advocate for urban density and the promotion of zoning concepts.  Verner has a Masters Degree in Environmental Management and before she was Mayor, she established and directed the Natural Resources Department for the Spokane Tribe of Indians.
