WCV endorses Jay Inslee for Governor
October 7th - On stage at Washington Conservation Voters Breakfast of Champions this morning, we announced our 2012 endorsement of Jay Inslee for governor.
While it is not surprising that WCV is endorsing Jay Inslee, the timing is significant. This is the earliest that we’ve ever made an endorsement in our organization’s history. We felt strongly that the environmental community needs to engage in this race early to both define the candidates and increase the profile of our issues in this critical race.
We all know that progress at the national level is unlikely for the next several years. A state-based strategy is our only path to a meaningful step forward on issues like climate change, clean energy, or Puget Sound restoration. Electing a candidate like Jay Inslee – possibly the strongest environmental advocate in Congress – would be a tremendous victory for our movement.
We intend to run the strongest campaign in our organization’s 30-year history.
We'll have more news on this important announcement in the coming weeks. November 2012 may be months away, but make no mistake - the next year will require us to come together and speak with one strong voice like we never have before.
