71% of Americans Support Emissions Reductions
Public Opinion Strategies, a Republican polling firm, recently conducted a survey of voters throughout the United States. The results show that 71 percent of Americans indicate support for requiring reductions in carbon emissions, and 50 percent strongly support such a requirement.

Thanks to you and many others, state legislators have received thousands of concerned letters and phone calls about protecting I-937. Last week, Governor Gregoire stepped in and proposed a solution that will preserve key provisions of I-937 while also extending the renewable tax incentives set to expire this year.

Clean Energy Ballot Measure Under Fire
Tuesday night, the state Senate voted to pass a bill that significantly weakens Washington's renewable energy standard. You may recall that in 2006, we worked together to pass I-937 in order to promote investments in new renewable energy such as wind and solar. ESSB 5840, the bill passed by the Senate yesterday in a 27-21 vote, severely undermines this initiative.

Supreme Court Endorsements
We are pleased to announce the endorsements of Justices Mary Fairhurst, Charles Johnson and Debra Stephens for the Washington State Supreme Court. Judges render decisions that have significant impact on environmental policy. In our endorsement process, we do not demand that judicial candidates have a particular ideological inclination. Washington Conservation Voters endorses those candidates that are fully committed to a fair and impartial judiciary thereby ensuring that our friends and allies will receive a fair shot when arguing environmental cases before our appellate courts.

Legislative Session Update
Climate Action and Green Jobs passed the Senate unamended and will be signed on Thursday by the Governor Gregoire. Local Solutions to Global Warming, Evergreen Cities and Local Farms-Healthy Foods also passed in the legislature, and now head to the Governor to be signed.
