Climate bill needs your help today
Take action for Earth Day-- Call your Senator in support of the climate bill.
Last fall you helped us elect Governor Gregoire to be a champion on climate change. And, as you know, we've been working closely with the Governor throughout this session to tackle global warming. Last week the Governor's climate bill passed out of the state House. Now it's on to the Senate where the vote could happen as soon as today! This Earth Day we need you to help by taking action to tackle global warming.
The Legislature has the chance to take action to reduce Washington’s dependence on fossil fuels and take steps to deliver real reductions in our global warming pollution. But, the stage is set for a fierce fight with those who resist tackling global warming.
Urge your Senator to concur with the Governor’s climate bill (E2SSB 5735) as it was passed in the House. Please call your Senator today at 1-800-562-6000. Once you've made the call, click here to let us know how it went.
While our Cap and Invest priority legislation was not successful, we succeeded in working to strengthen the Governor’s climate bill (E2SSB 5735). This version of the bill ensures that Olympia will take a few significant steps towards reducing our carbon pollution including:
- Creating transportation choices that save time and money, giving Washington residents more options to get where they need to go faster;
- Requiring Washington’s one large-scale coal plant to reduce its global warming pollution by at least half. The state’s current global warming pollution limits require a 50% reduction in emissions by 2050. This bill will result in the coal plant achieving that level of reduction by 2025, much earlier; and
- Keeping Washington engaged in the Western Climate Initiative, a regional program to reduce global warming pollution.
Legislators will be making up their minds on this bill and taking a vote very soon. Please call your Senator at 1-800-562-6000 now. Click here once you've completed the call.
Together, we can continue to build the clean energy economy and provide leadership in the fight against climate change.
Thank you for all that you do.
