Seattle – Citing his strong record of standing up for environmental protection, King County Conservation Voters, the local chapter of Washington Conservation Voters, today announced an endorsement of Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels.

“Greg Nickels is among the greenest mayors of major cities across the United States,” said Kurt Fritts, executive director of Washington Conservation Voters. “He has repeatedly taken on tough fights to advance a strong environmental agenda, and he has more than earned the support of Washington Conservation Voters.”

The organization cited the mayor’s nationally acclaimed role in organizing the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement that has led to 944 cities (and counting) across the United States, representing nearly 84 million people, to pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as countless local actions that have enhanced Seattle’s reputation as a green city.

“Seattle City Light is the only electric utility in the nation to achieve carbon neutral operations, reducing emissions equivalent to taking 41,000 cars off the road,” added KCCV co-chair Frank Paganelli. “Mayor Nickels has taken decisive action when it comes to environmental protection.”

Nickels thanked Washington Conservation Voters for its support.

”Washington Conservation Voters is one of the most active and highly respected environmental organizations in the state. I am honored to receive their support,” Nickels said.
