January 18, 2012

WASHINGTON – League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement in response to media reports indicating that the Obama administration intends to reject the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline:

“Today is a great day for putting the American people before polluter profits. We strongly applaud the Obama administration for standing up to Big Oil and rejecting the dangerous Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. The oil industry has spent millions of dollars lobbying for this pipeline because it would have added to their $100 billion in profits from last year. President Obama is right to reject this pipeline that would put the health and livelihoods of Americans at risk in order to allow oil companies to export the dirtiest oil on the planet.”
