Seattle – Washington Conservation Voters, the statewide political voice for the environment, announced its first round of state legislative endorsements for the 2010 election, highlighting those incumbent legislators who have made environmental protection a top priority.

Included in the list are nine members of the state House of Representatives who are running for re-election, and one member of the House who is running for an open seat in the state Senate.

“These ten candidates are some of the most committed and effective environmental leaders in Olympia,” said Kurt Fritts, Executive Director. “Every one of these legislators has made protecting the environment a top priority. From cleaning up Puget Sound to growing our green economy, these are the folks who walk the walk in our state Capitol.”

Receiving an endorsement from Washington Conservation Voters today are:

House candidates
Rep. Timm Ormsby, Spokane (D-3)
Rep. Christine Rolfes, Bainbridge Island (D-23)
Rep. Dave Upthegrove, Des Moines (D-33)
Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson, Seattle (D-36)
Rep. John McCoy, Everett (D-38)
Rep. Hans Dunshee, Snohomish (D-44)
Rep. Scott White, Seattle (D-46)
Rep. Geoff Simpson, Kent (D-47)
Rep. Ross Hunter, Bellevue (D-48)

Senate candidate

Rep. Sharon Nelson, Seattle (D-34)

“The Legislature has achieved some important environmental victories over the past two years, largely with the leadership of these ten incumbents,” said Fritts.  “However, there is much more work to be done on many fronts, including combating global warming and saving Puget Sound.  It is critical that we return these leaders to Olympia to continue their work on our behalf.”
