Washington state has a clear choice for Commissioner of Public Lands.
The State Department of Natural Resources has vast influence over Washington’s environmental future. The department manages over 5 million acres of forest, farm, and aquatic public lands for the shared benefit of everyone in our state.
Hilary Franz is a proven leader who’s put in the time to understand Washington’s public forests and water ways. She has spent 18 years promoting sustainable management and rural economic development and understands that protecting the land and community prosperity are two sides of the same coin.
She is also the only candidate in the race with significant public lands issue experience. She is the right person to lead the Department of Natural Resources core mission; managing our land for the shared benefit of everyone in Washington.
Hilary Franz is the current Futurewise Executive director and former Bainbridge Island Councilwomen. During her impressive career she has worked to protect the working families and communities that rely on forestry and farmland throughout Washington State. Franz is a former Washington Environmental Council Board member, has sat on the Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Council and was appointed by the Governor to the Washington State Climate Action Team. She has worked on behalf of farming communities in every corner of the state from Skagit, Whatcom and Pierce Counties to communities in Benton, Kittitas and Okanogan.
When our forests are healthy, our and more people have greater access to the outdoors, communities across Washington win. We need to elect a leader who understands how to manage our lands so they work for everyone. Hilary Franz will be that champion.
