Whatcom County Executive

Over nearly three decades, WCV has worked to ensure our endorsement is a clear sign to voters that any candidate who has earned this designation will fight to ensure all people in Washington state have a healthy place to live, a strong economy, and a protected environment. We have a rigorous vetting process and don’t decide to endorse lightly. But in a handful of races there are two candidates who we feel have earned our support. In these races, both have shown they will work to live up to the values of WCV and our members.

Karen Burke has a deep understanding of the climate crisis and her proven track record of bringing community members together to find solutions. Karen brings 18 years of executive experience as the Director of Lummi Tribal Court and the Executive Director of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services. She has managed multi-million dollar budgets and overseen complex agencies through transitions and periods of growth. If elected, she plans to focus on reducing the county’s carbon footprint and climate resiliency. She knows we must transition our work force and ensure fossil fuel workers have a place in that future.

Satpal Sidhu has proven time and again he will stand up for the environment. As a Whatcom County Council Member, he has worked to improve the region’s economy while preventing the construction of a proposed coal terminal that would have set the region’s economy, public health, and quality of life back by decades. As the former president of a solar company, he has the vision and business experience to help Whatcom County be a center for the clean energy economy.

Voters would be served well by both of these candidates. To learn more about the candidates visit their websites: Satpal Sidhu: https://votesatpalsidhu.com/ and Karen Burke: https://electkarenburke.com/
