Washington Environmental Council is seeking an intern to support our fundraising team, primarily focusing on event and data support and donor research.

We offer an exciting and fast-paced work environment with an opportunity for learning and strengthening a multitude of real-life, workplace skills. This internship requires a highly motivated and detail-oriented person who is interested in events and/or development work and has some experience with data entry, Excel, event planning and internet research.

Washington Environmental Council (WEC) drives positive change to solve our state’s most pressing environmental challenges. For over 50 years, we have been a respected leader for environmental protection in the state, securing laws and policies that safeguard the health of our families and our environment. Our current program areas are: Acting for Climate and Preventing Fossil Fuel Expansion, Protecting and Restoring Puget Sound, and Sustaining our Evergreen Forests. We collaborate with partners and work with impacted communities to galvanize support and effectively advocate for change with key decision makers and leaders.

Washington Conservation Voters (WCV) is the statewide political voice for the environment. We work to elect environmentally responsible candidates to state and local offices. Working with allies in the community, we advocate for strong environmental policies and hold our elected officials accountable during the legislative session. Through our political work, we are strengthening laws that safeguard the health of our communities, the beauty of our state and our economic future.

By effectively combining the policy expertise of WEC with the political expertise of WCV, we have reshaped how we make environmental progress in Washington State. While the organizations are independent, we work very closely together on appropriate projects. Combined, we have a staff of 30-plus and work in a LEED-certified building in downtown Seattle with a view of Elliott Bay. Duration:

December 2018 to June 2019

Hours:

December: 8 hours of training

From week of January 7 through mid-June: 8-10 hours a week

Weeks of March 18, 25 and April 1: 15 hours a week

Saturday, March 30:  1:00pm – 11:00pm (Green Gala/Fundraising event)

Location:

1402 Third Avenue, Suite 1400, Seattle, WA 98101

Stipend:

A stipend of $850.00 as well as an ORCA transit pass will be provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Planning and Execution Support

  • Soliciting and tracking of in-kind gifts (donations from local businesses).
  • Assist with pre- and post-event work including day-of event set-up and breakdown.
  • General organization of event supplies and materials.

Data Support:

  • Generate reports in Salesforce (on-site Salesforce training will be provided).
  • Prepare and send gift acknowledgement letters and postcards.
  • Support gift entry and tracking.
  • Take on data health (accuracy) projects.

Research Support:

  • Maintain accurate donor records and pull reports.
  • Conduct and report donor prospect research.

Qualifications

Required Skills, Experience, and Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Clear communication skills in person, over email and on phone.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products and internet search tools.
  • An ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong phone skills and an outgoing personality; including the ability to be persistent and convincing over the phone and in person.
  • Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.
