We are thrilled to be part of a historic campaign that is investing in clean energy and healthy communities by putting the Protect Washington Act on the ballot by way of Initiative 1631!

For the past four years, we have been working with a broad coalition across the state to develop an equitable policy that will combat climate change and transform our state for the better. WEC is proud to be a founder and leader of this broad coalition representing environment, health, labor, communities of color, businesses, faith and tribal nations who have come together to win on climate.
What you can do
In order to get this initiative on the ballot, we need to collect over a quarter million signatures from Washingtonians by the beginning of July. While this is a tall order, we know that with all of us pulling together, we can reach our goal.
Here’s what you can do:
- Sign up to volunteer with us to collect signatures.
- Request a petition or two so you can gather signatures in your own community. We will mail you a climate activist kit and get you ready to go.
- Find local events near you.
About Initiative 1631
I-1631 will clean our air and build good paying jobs across the state. It will invest in clean energy like wind and solar as well as in projects that improve climate resilience with our forests and waterways. It will charge a pollution fee on the state’s biggest polluters, like the oil industry, who spew out toxic air pollutants that not only accelerate climate change but cause asthma and respiratory diseases. Together we can ensure the largest polluters do their part to clean up the mess and we invest in clean air, clean energy, and stronger communities.
